ELECTRIC SEAGLIDER GETS PASSENGERS AIRBORNE
March 14, 2025 – The innovative electric sea-gliding vessel design is becoming a reality as Rhode Island-based startup, Regent Craft, has successfully conducted the inaugural test of its full-size electric seaglider, which carried passengers on board. This milestone validates their concept for a new class of ocean-going vehicle.
The 12-passenger Viceroy seaglider prototype measures 55 feet in length and boasts a wingspan of 65 feet. It functions seamlessly over water in three distinct modes: as a floating vessel on its hull, as a glider above the waves using hydrofoils, and as a ground-effect flyer operating within one wingspan’s distance from the water’s surface.
Regent Co-founder and CEO Billy Thalheimer expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Sea trials are just the beginning. This is the first step toward delivering Viceroy seagliders globally and meeting our extensive global orders. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our world-class team and partners worldwide, reaching this historic milestone only four years after our inception. We are inching closer to addressing the substantial global market demand for seagliders.”
