OES Introduces Three-Axis Stages with Four Motor Options for Advanced Motion Control Applications

Introducing Three-Axis Stages with Multiple Motor Options for Precision Motion Control

Date: March 25, 2025

Optimal Engineering Systems Inc. (OES), based in Van Nuys, California, has announced its new YPR-45-45-100 series of pitch, roll, and yaw three-axis stages tailored for high-precision motion control applications. This innovative design integrates two goniometers permitting +/- 45 degrees of movement on the pitch and roll axes, along with a rotary stage of 100 millimeters for the yaw axis.

The design is versatile, enabling various applications such as identifying crystals to assess hyperspectral bidirectional reflectance, measuring the radiation patterns of LEDs, producing quartz oscillator plates through X-ray quartz cutting, inspecting medical instrument edges, measuring gloss, and even for laser machining, drilling, and mirror alignment.

Four Motor Options for Enhanced Functionality

These stages come with four distinct motor configurations:

  • -01: Stepper motor driven
  • -02: Three-phase brushless servo motor with quadrature optical encoders
  • -03: Brushed DC servo motor with quadrature optical encoders
  • -04: Stepper motor driven with quadrature optical encoders for verified positioning

The stepper motors present a resolution of 0.002 degrees, achieving positional accuracy of 0.05 degrees and repeatability within +/- 0.01 degrees using a 10 micro-steps setup.

The goniometer axes in the -01 and -04 motor options max out at speeds of 14 degrees per second. Meanwhile, the -02 and -03 servo versions boast velocities as high as 45 degrees per second, along with superior resolution, positional accuracy, and repeatability.

The rotary axis features an INDEX switch, signaling the motion controller about the HOME position, and the goniometer axes include limit switches to indicate the travel endpoint. The rotary axis is designed with a precision array of threaded holes to facilitate tooling or fixture mounting, and each axis comes with calibrated scales for easy visual verification.

These stages can be tailored with a plug-and-play compatible multi-axis motion controller suited for any motor configuration from OES. For further details, visit OES’s official website at www.oesincorp.com.
