uAvionix Unveils skyAlert Wearable Alert Device for UAS Operators and Visual Observers

UAVIONIX Introduces SkyAlert: A Wearable Aircraft Alerting Device for UAS Operators

On May 9, 2025, UAVIONIX announced the launch of SkyAlert, a new portable and wearable ADS-B receiver crafted specifically for professional UAS (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems) operators and their visual observers. This innovative device aims to enhance safety and situational awareness for all airspace users.

SkyAlert in a field setting

By providing audible alerts whenever an ADS-B equipped aircraft enters a user-configured proximity zone, the SkyAlert device significantly improves operators’ ability to maintain visual contact with their drones.

Christian Ramsey, Chief Commercial Officer at uAvionix, stated, “SkyAlert exemplifies our commitment to innovation in aviation safety. Immediate audible warnings of nearby ADS-B equipped aircraft empower operators and observers to maintain focus and ensure compliance with best safety practices.”

Enhancing Operational Safety

SkyAlert is designed for professional UAS operators working in the field, addressing the critical necessity of staying alert during flight operations, particularly when navigating around structures and powerlines. The device’s audible alerts immediately notify users of potential intruder conflicts, such as low-flying helicopters, without causing visual distractions.

Configurable Alert Zone

One of the standout features of SkyAlert is its customizable alert zone capability. Users can set specific altitude and range parameters for alerts, providing timely notifications tailored to their operational environment. This flexibility allows UAS operators to take proactive measures to avoid potential airspace conflicts during various operations, including utility inspections, agricultural missions, and civil engineering tasks conducted at lower altitudes.

Optional EFB Connectivity

To further enhance situational awareness, SkyAlert includes connectivity with popular Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications, enabling users or their observers to monitor nearby aircraft on mobile devices. Using the industry-standard GDL-90 protocol, the device can provide real-time aircraft position data, alongside audible alerts directed at the Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC). Compatible EFB applications include ForeFlight Mobile, SkyDemon, EasyVFR, FlyQ, and others.
