DJI Fly App and RC 2 Firmware Update – Integrated Drone Flight Simulator

DJI Fly App and RC 2 Firmware Update: New Drone Flight Simulator Feature

Hello, drone enthusiasts! This is Shawn from Air Photography, and I’m excited to share insights from the recent DJI announcements. The company has introduced the Mavic 4 Pro and the new RC Pro 2, accompanied by significant updates to the DJI Fly app and the RC2 controller. Let’s explore these updates in detail!

DJI Fly App Version 1.17.0

The latest version of the DJI Fly app is now 1.17.0. This update enhances compatibility with the Mavic 4 Pro, introducing a remarkable feature that allows users to sync waypoint missions across different drones, regardless of the controller type. The synchronization utilizes cloud technology, facilitating easier mission transfers between devices.

When you first use the app, make sure to enable this feature when prompted, particularly when accessing waypoint missions. Additionally, there is an option in the controller settings to toggle this feature on or off. Currently, this new capability is not available in the United States, but it is expected to launch shortly.

For instance, I created a waypoint mission on my Mini 4 Pro last year. When using the RC2 Pro, which wasn’t connected to my drone, I could still access the camera view and see missions from 2023 that had been synced through the cloud. While some features depend on the drone capabilities, this addition significantly enhances user convenience. Remember, an internet connection is necessary for the controllers to sync waypoints, so you might need to use your phone as a hotspot in the field.

Enhancements in the RC2 Controller

The RC2 controller now boasts a built-in flight simulator, a feature that was previously introduced with the RC2 Pro. To access it, simply tap the button at the top of the interface. The simulator provides both training courses and an immersive flying experience. While the RC2 Pro offers multiple landscapes, the standard RC2 is limited to a single one—a skate park—due to its smaller storage capacity. The RC2 Pro is equipped with 128 GB of built-in storage, enabling support for more maps, with the prospect of additional maps for the RC2 in future updates.

DJI Fly App and RC 2 Firmware Update

The flight simulator is quite impressive, currently supporting only the Mavic 4 Pro. It simulates real-world flying conditions, including obstacle avoidance. For example, when approaching a building, the simulator prevents collisions. Users can switch between flight modes such as Cine and Sport while monitoring battery life, RC signal strength, and satellite connections. Future updates will introduce adjustable camera settings, including the ability to switch between photo and video modes, along with customizable options like button assignments and obstacle avoidance settings.

This simulator serves as a fantastic tool for novice pilots to gain confidence and for experienced users to refine their skills through practice.

RC2 Compatibility

The RC2 controller now fully supports the Mavic 4 Pro, ensuring seamless operations when paired with this new drone model.

Conclusion

This overview highlights DJI’s recent updates, particularly focusing on the DJI Fly app’s capabilities and enhancements to the RC2 controller. I hope you found this information helpful. Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to sharing more exciting content soon!
