UAVOS Enhances Unmanned Aircraft Performance with New Landing Gear Spring
UAVOS, a leader in UAS engineering and manufacturing, has introduced its latest innovation: a Reinforced Main Landing Gear Spring aimed at boosting the durability, performance, and safety of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The cutting-edge landing gear spring is constructed from high-strength composite materials, utilizing advanced precision engineering techniques. This results in excellent shock absorption, a lighter weight, and a longer lifespan compared to conventional steel components. The new design is specifically tailored to enhance the stability of UAVs during landings and taxiing while also lowering maintenance expenses for operators.
“Our aim was to create a landing gear solution that not only elevates safety standards but also improves overall efficiency for UAVs,” remarked Aliaksei Stratsilatau, Founder and CEO of UAVOS. “The main landing gear is designed with a minimum weight of 16 kg, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.”
The reduced weight of the landing gear does not compromise its stiffness or its ability to meet operational demands adequately. Furthermore, the slimmer profile directly contributes to a decrease in aerodynamic drag. The smooth surface ensures that even at maximum flight speeds, performance remains uncompromised.
This innovative component is crafted using prepreg carbon combined with the Inflatable Bladder Molding Composite Method. This approach involves saturating fiber sheets with a specialized resin, which are then placed in a mold to form the desired component.
Key Advantages of the New Main Landing Gear Spring
- Strength & Durability: Capable of enduring high-impact landings and challenging operational environments.
- Lightweight Structure: Lessen the overall aircraft weight, enhancing fuel efficiency and maximized payload capacity.
- Extended Service Life: Designed for reliability over the long term, decreasing the frequency of replacements.
- Improved Shock Absorption: Mitigates stress on the airframe during landings.
The new landing gear spring has successfully undergone extensive initial testing under overload conditions of 1800 kg, demonstrating a 160 mm deflection of the axis under such loads, which confirms its durability. Furthermore, tests for torsional resistance showed remarkable performance against twisting forces, a vital factor in reducing vibrations.
The first refurbished main landing gear has been delivered to a UAVOS client to support its Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) aircraft program, which now includes integrated brake lines into the leaf spring landing gear.
