Key Responsibilities

The core functions of the role include:

  • Complex Mechanical Systems Design: Lead the comprehensive design and analysis of complex mechanical systems utilizing 3D CAD software to ensure reliability, robustness, and adherence to industry standards. Expertise in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is essential for creating design documentation while considering tolerance stack-ups for manufacturability.
  • Design Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of product designs, from concept through to Pilot Production. Maintain and create comprehensive documentation, including Methods of Manufacture (MOM), product specifications, and manuals, ensuring compliance with GD&T standards.
  • Design Validation and Verification: Develop and implement thorough test plans for design validation while analyzing system performance under various conditions to uphold the integrity and quality of the designs.
  • Component Sourcing: Choose suitable hardware components to assure the scalability and producibility of designs. Evaluate tooling and fabrication methods, ensuring robust designs while sourcing and assessing specialized suppliers and vendors for mechanical components.
  • System Integration and Testing: Collaborate with cross-functional teams for the smooth integration of mechanical systems with software, electronics, and other components to ensure alignment in design and tolerances.
  • Quality and Reliability Management: Promote the consistent application of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups to maintain high-quality standards across all iterations and manufacturing runs. Investigate and resolve any emerging quality concerns during the design and manufacturing stages.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Keep detailed records of the System Integration process, configurations, and testing outcomes, thus facilitating troubleshooting and future projects.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with project managers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders to align on project needs and deliverables. Use 3D CAD for cross-functional design reviews while providing mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

  • A degree (BTech or MTech) in Aerospace, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical or a related field is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory updates related to drone systems is essential.
  • Experience of 1–4 years in a similar position with exposure to type certification is advantageous.
