Titan Protection’s Ryan Smith Discusses Drone Security Solutions at NestGen 2025

Drone-based Security Solutions: Insights from Ryan Smith at NestGen 2025

During the recent NestGen 2025 event, a session titled “Advancing Security with Remote Pilots & Autonomous Response and Patrol” provided valuable insights into integrating autonomous systems into security practices. Featured speaker Ryan Smith, founder of Titan Protection, emphasized the importance of drone technology in modern security measures.

Smith shared how Titan’s innovative “blended” security approach—combining human personnel with drones and autonomous systems—has significantly impacted security operations. The Kansas City-based company has reported a reduction in security incidents by 30-40% and substantial cost savings of up to 60% compared to traditional security methods.

The advantages of using drones are evident, especially in their ability to patrol areas and respond to incidents more efficiently. Drones offer improved response times and can access challenging locations, making them preferable over conventional security measures. Smith stated, “Anything outdoors—construction sites, critical infrastructure—these are areas that lend themselves favorably to a drone application.”

However, Smith also warned that there are critical considerations when developing a drone-based security strategy. He addressed issues such as regulatory compliance, fleet management, operational challenges in adverse weather conditions, privacy concerns, integration of additional equipment like spotlights and speakers, insurance issues, and maintaining backup power supplies.

Despite these challenges, Smith highlighted the potential for considerable cost savings and increased operational effectiveness by incorporating drones into security frameworks. He encouraged security professionals to embrace uncrewed technology, noting, “Deterrence is the ultimate goal. Response times are a key indicator, and we’re experiencing notable success in this area. The primary advantage lies in cost reduction versus traditional security methods, alongside enhanced effectiveness in patrolling and incident response.”
