Marines to Acquire 30 Additional Amphibious Combat Vehicle Variants Equipped for Electronic Warfare Systems

Marine Corps to Acquire 30 More Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV) for Electronic Warfare Capabilities

May 13, 2025 – The U.S. Marine Corps has announced the acquisition of 30 additional Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACVs) equipped with advanced vetronics for electronic warfare. These vehicles serve a crucial role in transporting Marine infantry from offshore ships to beachheads during assaults.

Amphibious Combat Vehicle

The order, valued at $172.3 million, was placed on May 1, 2025, with BAE Systems Platforms & Services based in Michigan. This latest contract adds to the total value, bringing the cumulative contract amount to $3.9 billion for the ACV program.

Designed for versatility, the ACV platform allows the Marine Corps to potentially expand its fleet to 204 vehicles, aimed to replace the aging fleet of Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs) that have been in service since 1972. This acquisition is part of a phased approach to modernizing Marine capabilities.

Enhanced Capabilities

The ACVs are capable of integrating cutting-edge technology, including reconnaissance sensors, electronic warfare equipment, anti-air sensors, and compatibility with uncrewed aircraft. BAE Systems is designing the ACVs using the Superav 8×8 amphibious armored personnel carrier framework, developed by Iveco Defence Vehicles in Italy.

These vehicles are engineered to withstand enemy direct and indirect fire, as well as land mines. Their design features low visual and infrared signatures, with modular protection systems to enhance survivability.

With a swimming range of up to 12 miles from the shore, the ACVs can transition seamlessly from aquatic to land operations, allowing for coordination with main battle tanks during missions. Each ACV can carry up to 17 Marines and provides direct fire support with various armaments, including an M2 .50 caliber machine gun.

BAE Systems plans to complete the construction and delivery of these vehicles by June 2027, with manufacturing operations based in multiple locations, including York, Pennsylvania, and Aiken, South Carolina.
