U.S. Army Explores Industry Collaboration for CBRN Sensors on Uncrewed Vehicles
FORT DETRICK, Md. – The U.S. Army is seeking to enhance battlefield situational awareness by integrating chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) sensors onto uncrewed systems. The initiative is meant to improve data transmission for soldiers both on foot and in mobility vehicles.
On May 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Edgewood Contracting Division of the Army Contracting Command will host a virtual briefing via Microsoft Teams to discuss the CBRN Sensor Integration on Robotic Platforms (CSIRP) project. This event aims to connect with industry leaders to identify potential collaborations for integrating sensor payloads in uncrewed air, water, and ground vehicles.
The implementation of these sensors will facilitate a common operating picture, delivering real-time CBRN data without delay. This critical project is supported by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO CBRND).
Key Features of the Project
The briefings will feature presentations from the Joint Program Manager for CBRN Sensors, with opportunities for companies to showcase their capabilities through one-on-one engagements. The session will help Army officials assess the potential effectiveness and constraints of deploying CBRN sensors on uncrewed platforms.
This initiative focuses on:
- Biological Point Detection: Creating compact biological sensors for immediate hazard identification on the battlefield.
- Microsensor Integration: Implementing CBRN microsensors on various uncrewed vehicles for advanced threat detection.
- Enhanced Detection and Autonomy: Upgrading traditional chemical sensors to sophisticated, smaller alternatives on uncrewed systems.
- Command and Control Integration: Optimizing battlefield decision-making through unified awareness of CBRN hazards.
Companies selected to participate will be contracted through September 2028.
Registration Information
Interested companies can register for the industry-day briefings by filling out a registration form available online by May 15, 2025. Forms should be submitted via email to the Army’s Richard Totten and Alexander Mayatte. The deadline for submitting white papers is set for May 19, 2025.
